David Cecil Wynter Verey was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he obtained an MA degree in architecture, and became an ARIBA in 1940 He was a captain in the Royal Fusiliers, and was later seconded to SOE. He was a noted architectural historian and produced the two Pevsner volumes on Gloucestershire. He was married to the renowned gardener Rosemary Verey. David was chairman of Alan Sutton Publishing Limited 1978 to 1984.
